At the Beach

the standard beach and feet picture - before the sand destroyed my toenail polish

Technically, we went to the beach every day of vacation, but these pictures are from the first day.  This is the beach at our hotel, which was really nice, and super convenient to be so close to our room if we needed to run back for anything.

This picture is a pretty accurate representation of what I did all week.  My floppy hat wasn't as brilliant as I thought it would be.  It got a little mangled in the suitcase, and it kept blowing away in the wind.  It also wasn't easy to pack when we went to other beaches.  Despite all of the flaws, I felt pretty fancy in my floppy hat.

Later that day, we took a taxi to another resort to check out that beach, and then went into town for dinner.  I had about 5 minutes and a tiny bathroom to get ready for dinner, so I kept it pretty casual.  I got this skirt last fall for $7 at Ann Taylor (on super sale with this dress and this dress).  It's silk, with a jersey waistband, so perfect for throwing on over a swimsuit.

Did you miss me?

Be honest, did you even know I was on vacation?  I was sneaky and had some scheduled posts, because I'm paranoid and was sure if I admitted I would be gone, that someone would come break into my house.  I'm back now, and the house wasn't broken into, which means my decision to keep it a secret was pretty smart!

So here's where I was:

It's okay if you are jealous. I'm a little jealous of my 3-days-ago self.  Living in Nebraska, it's not convenient to get to the ocean very often.  Linoma Beach just doesn't quite cut it.

On our trip home, we had a layover in San Juan airport, which has this cool map of the world with a pop-out for the Caribbean islands.  John was a good sport and took a picture of me pointing to St. Croix, where we were.

It's a sweet little island with beautiful beaches and friendly people.  We had a great time and I would definitely go back some day.  You should plan a visit - and take me with you!

I'm still going through pictures, but I'm sure I will have a few more vacation posts in the next few days.  And then it will be back to regular outfit of the day posts.

Gold Skirt

Do you ever buy something thinking that it's kind of ridiculous, but then it ends up being a frequently worn item?  This gold skirt is one of those things.  I got it last summer at the Gap, on clearance.  I just loved it, but didn't really know what I would wear with it. Turns out, I can wear it with a bunch of things!  It's practically a neutral.

I used this collage in my repeat offenders post, and I've worn this skirt one other time since then, too.  It just goes to show that sometimes your heart is really smarter than your head when shopping!

Paint it Black

I'm not usually one to wear mostly black.  I love wearing bright colors.  This is probably about as "all-black" as I am willing to go with an outfit.  The stripes and argyle help keep things interesting.  The gorgeous green grass and trees in the front yard are the perfect accent!  I am LOVING spring!

Becoming My Mother

Last week, I went into the Gap for the first time since my shopping spree in December.  When my shopping ban was over, I had big ideas that I wouldn't just run to Gap, but I'd try new places and diversify my wardrobe.  So, I looked around some other stores last week when I was at the mall, and didn't find much.  Then I saw Gap and it just looked so inviting!  They had some great sales, and an additional 30% off all markdowns.

I tried on about a million things.  OK, maybe more like 25, but that's a lot.  In the dressing room, I was trying on this dress and I had one of those moments where I felt like my mom.  I'm looking at this dress trying to determine if it is black or navy.  I was pretty much going to get it either way, but I just couldn't quite tell.  I blame it on the lighting in the store.  When I got home, it was obviously navy.  So Mom, I'm sorry for all those times I laughed at you for asking me if something was black or navy.

I ended up getting this dress, a trench coat, and three striped shirts.  And I paid significantly less in the store than the prices online.

Fiddler on the Roof

Three Smith ladies!

Last week, I went to Fiddler on the Roof - the last Broadway show of this season.  It was a great show, and we had fun, like always!  I think Jersey Boys was my favorite show of the season.  They just announced the schedule for next year, and I'm very excited to see The Lion King!

If your city has Broadway shows, you should totally check out the season ticket options.  It's a really great deal, and you get discounts if you are a season ticket holder.  Our tickets for Fiddler were $5 each.  That's half as expensive as a movie!

My whole outfit is from the Gap.  I really need to be careful about that!

Two Months Ago

I was sorting through my pictures this weekend and realized I never posted this outfit.  I wore it on Feb 29th!  I guess I just didn't have anything interesting to say about it, so never got around to posting it.  I still don't have anything interesting to say.  It was an easy outfit to throw on for work.

I also found some videos on my camera from the past couple of years.  Most of them are of my nieces.  They always convince me to do ridiculous things, like have a crazy fashion show and make a movie of it.  Of course, I'm the only grown up who will dress up and be in the fashion show.  They make their mom or John be the judge of the fashion show.  I always get last place, and they tie for first.  Someday, they will probably be super embarrassed of these movies, but for now, I'm the only one who is embarrassed.

Happy Monday!
