Independence Day Wrap-Up

Well, if you read this post yesterday,  you might be wondering how the shirts turned out.  You don't need to wonder any longer, because here's the final product:
We're almost TOO patriotic, if that's even possible

I also have to show you the inside of the cake I made, because I was pretty excited about the red white and blue interior!   It was also pretty delicious, if I may say so myself.

After hanging out with friends on Tuesday evening, we had a fun-filled day planned with John's family.  We ate entirely too much food, went to see "Brave", and shot off fireworks.  It was a pretty successful 4th of July.  We also got a pretty epic fireworks show from the people who live across the street from them.  I don't even want to know how much money they spent on their fireworks!
Sparkler time!

The moon was so pretty!

Magenta Frost was our grand finale

We also were in suspense all day because some of our best friends were at the hospital trying to welcome their first baby into the world.  I was checking my phone every few minutes to see if there were any updates on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Email.  We were fairly sure it would be a 4th of July baby, but this little girl had other plans and apparently didn't want to share her birthday with America, so she made her appearance early on the 5th.  I'm so, so, SO EXCITED for our friends, who are going to be totally awesome parents!

Did you have a happy 4th?  Do anything exciting?

Summer Date Night

Over the weekend, John and I went on a little date to dinner and a movie.  I felt like looking cute, but didn't want to be too dressy.  Also, it was about a million degrees outside (maybe more like 100), but I knew it would be chilly in the movie theater, so I compromised on shorts and a sweater.

We took the pictures after dinner, but before the movie.  It's so awkward to take outfit pictures in public!  There weren't very many people around, and we kind of ducked behind this brick pillar at the outdoor mall, just to be sneaky.  Can you tell I'm a little nervous?  There were some people getting a little to close there at the end!

Zoo Day

One full week of crazy fun with my sister and nieces is over and I'll be recapping our adventures in the next few days.  On their first day here, we went to the zoo.  These pictures don't even begin to capture the amount of fun we had.

One of the highlights of the day was watching this guy's training session.  White tigers are so beautiful!

Of course we had to pose with the jeep.

Adventures in the rainforest

This isn't really an outfit post, but when you go to the zoo, comfort and function have to take precedence over fashion.  I was excited to wear my new shorts and tank top from H&M.  The hat and sunglasses are pretty much a necessity.  I was going to wear my white visor, but I didn't really like it with my outfit, so I borrowed John's new hat.  I put my hair in a braid because I thought that would be cuter than a ponytail.  And tennis shoes were also a must, since I knew we would be walking around quite a bit.  SO, there you go.  If you are ever in Omaha, make sure you check out the zoo.  It's pretty great.
