Awkward Fashion Blogger

I wore this to work a couple weeks ago.  After work, I met up with some friends for Jazz on the Green.  I was going to take pictures at the park by my office, because it's always empty (always = the 3 other times I have gone to take pictures there).  Then there was a whole group of guys playing basketball, so I panicked and figured I would just take pictures when I got to Jazz on the Green

I didn't realize how crowded it would be, and that I would end up in a random parking lot.  I quickly set up my tripod and snapped a few pics, while feeling very self conscious as people stared at me.  Then I switched my heels and blazer for flip flops and a jean jacket and had a lovely evening with my friends!

Fashion blogging is so weird.

Monday Again

Happy Monday!  The weekends just never last long enough.  If you are on Instagram, you may have noticed that I was in St. Louis all weekend.  We drove out Friday after work and then drove back yesterday after the Cardinals game.  It was a really fun weekend (recap post coming soon), but we got home really late last night and now I am exhausted!  I think this was the last crazy weekend of the summer, so hopefully I can get back into a somewhat normal routine!

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

One Piece Many Ways - Navy T-shirt

As you may have noticed, I love a good remix post, so I had to jump in with Audrey's One Piece Many Ways linkup.  This time, I'm going with a very basic item - my navy t-shirt.  Navy is one of those colors that I used to think was for old ladies, until a few years ago.  Now I think it is a fantastic neutral that goes with everything!  Maybe I'm just becoming an old lady?  Hard to say for sure.

Anyway, here are 5 ways I've worn this top:

Crazy Busy Fun

Happy Monday!  I feel like I haven't blogged in forever, but I guess I just skipped Thursday and Friday.  Last week was crazy/busy/fun hanging out with my sister and nieces, and blogging just had to take a back seat.  I didn't take any outfit pictures all week, but I plan on blogging about our adventures over the next few days.  I'm headed back to work today, and dreading the mountain of emails I will have to sort through.  Oh well, it is totally worth it to spend time with my family!

This outfit is actually from several weeks ago when I met Ginny for lunch.  Since it was my very first "blogger date", I was sort of nervous about what to wear.  Then I overslept that morning, and didn't have time to decide, so I went with an easy favorite.  I really love this dress, so I tend to grab it when I want to look and feel good without a lot of thought.  It was so much fun (and so weird) to meet another style blogger.  Ginny is awesome and it was cool to talk about all the blog stuff that my other friends don't know about.  If you ever have the opportunity to meet up with a blog friend, I highly recommend it!

Goals Review for June

Happy July!  The good news is that my sister and nieces are in town and we are likely having way too much fun!  The bad news is that a new month means it is goal review time!  June was rough, for various reasons.  It was another busy month of traveling to a few places, and trying to spend time with friends and family as much as possible, while maintaining some order around my house and trying to stay on top of things at work.  It just feels like there is a lot going on right now!  This review is going to be painful - try not to judge me too much.  I reserve the right to bend the rules on all subjects.
  • Do a project, mostly sewing - well... I did re-hem my gold skirt.  AND I found 2 old necklaces that my dad bought in Israel in the 80s, and I re-strung them.  So, those are both projects, right?
  • Work out 3x a week - not so much.  I've had a lot going on in the evenings, and just haven't made exercise a priority.  Funny thing is, I've actually lost weight this month, because I started tracking my calories.  I'm down about 8 pounds!  It's a good reminder that diet and exercise are both so important.  I'm also kicking myself, because imagine how much more I would have lost if I'd been consistently exercising this month!!
  • Tackle a project around the house - I haven't done any big projects, but I am still making progress toward sorting and getting rid of things.  It's hard to tackle projects when I'm not around on the weekends.
  • Cook a "real" meal at least 3 days each week - yeah, not so much on this one either.
  • Stick to a clothing budget - success!  This is the only goal I can consistently achieve!
  • Read 50 books.  I'm falling behind on this one.  I've finished just 2 books in June, but I'm halfway through 2 other books.
So yeah, June was not a banner month for my goals!    I suspect July won't be much better, as I have a lot of stuff still going on, but I will try to get on track!

Halfway through the year, I'm feeling sort of like a failure, but I'm doing better than I did last year!  Small victories, right?

How are you doing on your annual goals??

Closet Ultimatum #8 - Navy Top

Last weekend, John and I ventured to Des Moines, IA with his parents.  The guys went to the Nascar race, and the girls went to the outlet mall!  Everyone wins!
The above photo was my attempt to merge a new skirt with a shirt from my Closet Ultimatum.  This top is great, except for the fact that the neck is a giant scoop and completely indecent from certain angles.  So, this shirt is going in the sell pile!

Here's what I actually wore to work:

Much better!   And can I just add that this skirt was $8.80!  I love finding good deals.  And I am that girl who will awkwardly tell people how much my clothing costs if they compliment me.  I try not to, but I just can't help it!  Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Just Another Scarf

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was pretty eventful.  Friday night, we went to the hospital to see our friends, and meet their new baby girl!  Have I mentioned how excited I am for them??

On Saturday, we headed to Lincoln for a friend's wedding, and ended up hanging out with friends until pretty late.

Sunday was reserved for church and getting things done around the house.  I could use about 5 more days of weekend.

So... remember the other day, when I learned it was way too hot to be wearing a scarf?  Well, apparently I forgot it already.  I found this scarf at Old Navy for about $3 and had to buy it.  Of course, I wanted to wear it right away, so I completely ignored the weather forecast and just went with it.   Sometimes, I make poor life choices!

FBFF - Spring is in the air

Spring is officially here!  And with that, FBFF's theme this week is Spring!  Here are a few things I am excited about for this spring:
  • Sandals and NO tights!  I'm just a little tired of wearing boots every day.  See that outfit above - it's basically the same as this one, but it feels completely different!
  • Spending time outside!  Whether it is at a baseball game, or just sitting on the deck to eat dinner, I am loving the fresh air and sunshine.  When you live in Nebraska, you have to take advantage of these days, because before too long, it will be uncomfortably hot and humid outside.
  • Flowers and gardening!  Since we moved into our house last summer, we have been looking forward to the spring when we can do some landscaping and plant flowers in our yard.  I think we are going to try a little garden, too.  I don't really know the first thing about gardening, but I'm excited to give it a try.
  • My parents are coming to visit!  Rumor has it, the folks are making their way to Nebraska in April.  I'm so excited to spend a couple of days with them, and show off our house.
And last but not least (although it probably should be least)...
  • I am counting down the days until I am allowed to shop again!  April 12th will be here before I know it.  I'm making mental lists of the new items I want to pick up, and hopefully will be a more discerning shopper.  Remember, an $8 shirt that I never wear is a BAD INVESTMENT!
What are you looking forward to this spring?  Go check out the other bloggers at FBFF!
