Time Flies

This summer is going so fast!  I can't believe it has been 2 months since this guy was born.  People ask me what it is like being a stay at home mom, and if I get bored or miss my old job.  Honestly, I've been so busy that I haven't had time to even wonder.  Life has been filled with figuring out how to be a parent, family visiting, all the doctor's appointments for baby and me (not to mention dentist and eye doctor), busy weekends with weddings, birthdays, wedding and baby showers, and then the 4th of July!  I've tried to squeeze in some lunches with friends, because I didn't want to completely disappear into mommyhood.

The rest of July is going to continue being wild, too!  My dad and nieces are coming to town tomorrow for a quick visit.  Then all of the Smith extended family will be rolling into town for my sister-in-law's wedding next weekend.  They are all pretty excited to meet the baby!  And we are pretty excited to see everyone!

Shorts Week - Super Casual

For Day 2 of Shorts Week, I'm going in the opposite direction from yesterday.  This is pretty much my weekend uniform.  Tee or tank & shorts & Sperry's.  Comfortable and easy.  If it looks familiar, that's because it is almost exactly the outfit I wore to the Ben Folds concert back in June.  It was much cooler that day, so I wore a regular tee, and had to add a hoodie.  But you know, same basic idea.

Buying these Sperry's was an excellent decision.  My only regret is that I didn't buy them in 2010 when I first wanted a pair.

Not Festival Style

On Saturday, John and I went to Lincoln to see Ben Folds.  It was an outdoor concert - definitely not a "festival,"  but many of the other attendees were in full on festival style mode.  This is not a style that I participate in (oops, I forgot to wear a bikini top and a maxi skirt and a flower crown!).  Rather I was in full on prep-tastic mode:

I didn't take any official outfit photos, so here's a little PolyVore set to give the full effect.
Outdoor Concert

In hindsight, I would have worn jeans because my legs got a little cold, and sitting in the grass was kind of itchy.  I also would have brought an extra jacket to sit on.  And probably worn shoes that I was less concerned about getting muddy.  But whatever.  It was fine.

Ben Folds was fantastic, as usual.  As I've mentioned, I've seen him several times ( I think 12 or 13?) over the past 10 years.   In 2004, it was just him and his piano.  Every other time, he's had a band with him.  This time it was just the piano again.  Honestly, it's great either way.  And he did a little drum solo randomly in the middle of the show.

The crowd was a little lackluster, but I have unreasonably high standards for who should go to concerts.  Like, if you don't know all the lyrics to all the songs, just STAY HOME and leave room for the real fans!  I'm kind of kidding, but not as much as I should be.  But Ben Folds has several songs that require audience participation, and it's really cool if the crowd is in the know.  It's kind of awkward if no one else around you is singing the trumpet parts.  Also, if you are going to hold up a stupid sign (that blocks everyone behind you) letting him know you will also be at the Kansas City concert, I'm going to harbor negative feelings towards you.  Hypothetically, of course.

Anyway, there's my not-at-all-festival-style post for the summer.  I'll probably be wearing not festival style a lot.  Like all the time.  So if you need any not festival style inspiration, you're in the right place.

You're welcome.

Green Shorts

I often have difficulty picking a favorite color, but most of the time, it's green.  Good old-fashioned Crayola-defined green.  I remember in high school that I could never find anything that was just regular green.  Everything was forest, olive, lime -  NOT INTERESTED!  I ended up buying this ridiculous top from Casual Corner (does that still exist?) just because it was the right color.  But it was covered in sequins.  So I very carefully removed all the sequins and had a cute top.  I'm glad stores have decided green should be offered again.  And I just buy every clothing item possible in green now.  So when Kate linked to these shorts, I had to have them.  I bought them last Wednesday, and then wore them all weekend.  That's when I know I've made a good purchase - I want to wear my new item every day.

Anyway, it's Friday and that means my friend Anne's wedding is tomorrow!  Hooray!  What are you up to this weekend?
