Confessions of a Copycat

Confession:  After I made this purple skirt, I went on Pinterest to search for ideas of what to wear with it.  There are not a whole lot of ideas for "purple maxi skirt", but I really loved this one.  So, I'm pretty much copying it here - minus the jacket, because it is way too hot outside for long sleeves.

I'm a little bit jealous of how amazingly flowy her skirt is, but I will just make do with my boring linen skirt.

To Cardi or Not to Cardi

I started off the day wearing this blue cardigan.  Then I remembered how warm my office gets in the afternoon and I had to shed the extra layer.

So, what do you think?  Is this outfit better with or without the cardigan?

DIY Purse Refashion

I've been wanting a bright yellow purse for a few years.  I just think it's the perfect cheerful bag for summer.  On a recent trip to Goodwill, I saw this Liz Claiborne purse and loved the size, color, style - everything except the gold hardware with the flower/butterfly/LC designs on it.

So, I decided to get the purse and be a little crafty!  I bought some chevron print fabric and mod podge and went to work!

First I covered the big buckle with the chevron fabric.  Then I covered the little squares with the fabric, and it looked sloppy.  So, I decided to just paint them instead.  I had some gray acrylic paint leftover from this project, so I didn't even have to buy anything extra.

Here's the final result - I really like it!

Have you ever DIY'ed a purse to make it more your style?  What other ideas do you have?

Swapping Baubles

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I signed up for a couple blogger swaps recently.  For Shanna's Bauble Swap, I was paired up with the lovely Terri.  It was so fun to read through her blog and get ideas of what she might like.  And of course, I loved it when a box came in the mail with a new piece of jewelry for me!

Terri did a great job picking out this green necklace for me!  I love the bright color, and the multiple strands of beads make it more of a statement piece.  I will definitely be wearing this on a regular basis!

Thanks to Shanna for hosting, and to Terri for the cute necklace!  Head on over to Terri's blog to see what I picked out for her!

Here's a close up on my shoes, since this is their first time on the blog!   I got these when my sister was visiting (big surprise), from the Dillard's clearance rack.  I love my gray boots and gray flats so much that it just seemed like a good idea to get some gray peep-toe wedges!

It's Easy Being Green

On Saturday, we headed to Lincoln for another wedding.  I was pretty excited to wear my new dress.  When my sister was visiting, we may have shopped quite a bit.  I saw this dress at Dillard's and really wanted to buy it, but it was still around $50 and I didn't think I should spend that much.  Then we decided to check out the Dillard's Clearance Center over in Iowa.  Imagine my surprise when I found the exact same green dress on the rack - in my size!  And it was only about $25, so I definitely made the right decision to not buy it the day before.

I probably should have gone with a sleeveless dress, because it was pretty hot on Saturday.  I also should have taken pictures before sitting in the car for 1 hour, the ceremony for 1.5 hours and the reception for 2 hours.  Just pretend you don't see the wrinkles in my dress, ok?

EBEW: Color Blocking

It's Everybody, Everywear time again!  Pretty much my favorite day of each month, and since I wasn't out of town this month, I actually had a chance to think through my plan for color blocking!

I decided to use my new mullet skirt as my starting point.  The first time I wore this skirt, I stayed within my comfort zone with black and white.  This time, I am going the bright color-blocking route.  It was also a good excuse to wear my crazy new shoes, and my recently dyed yellow cardigan, which is apparently my new favorite thing to wear.

Go check out the other colorful outfits here. I'm also linking up here today, for more color-blocking fun!

Just Another Scarf

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Mine was pretty eventful.  Friday night, we went to the hospital to see our friends, and meet their new baby girl!  Have I mentioned how excited I am for them??

On Saturday, we headed to Lincoln for a friend's wedding, and ended up hanging out with friends until pretty late.

Sunday was reserved for church and getting things done around the house.  I could use about 5 more days of weekend.

So... remember the other day, when I learned it was way too hot to be wearing a scarf?  Well, apparently I forgot it already.  I found this scarf at Old Navy for about $3 and had to buy it.  Of course, I wanted to wear it right away, so I completely ignored the weather forecast and just went with it.   Sometimes, I make poor life choices!
