All Mixed Up

I'm not sure what's going on, but I've been completely confused all week about what day it is.  I think it is partly because I had extra plans after work on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Then Thursday and today, my department is doing off-site training, so I'm working, but it's not at the office, and it's completely different than my normal day (like, I have to wake up at a normal person time, instead of sleeping in late!)  I was thinking it would be better next week, but apparently Thanksgiving is happening.  Where did November go exactly?  I have no idea.

The Take One, Pass it On challenge is almost over - just one more week!  Then I can get back to participating in link ups on the appropriate days.  I missed Pinned It & Did It yesterday, so I'm making up for it with today's outfit.  Tamara from Ordinary Fashionista is one of my favorites, and I love this outfit of hers from way back in May.  Stripes + Dots + a dash of pink?  Sign me up!  (Plus, she's kind of an amazing seamstress.)

Happy Friday!

Praying Mantis Invasion

I feel weird about this outfit.  It seemed like a good idea when I put it on, and then when I got to work, I felt like a clown.  I think there's just too much going on here.  So, it was an awkward day, made all the more awkward by the following story.

In a rare turn of events, I took outfit pictures before I went to work.  It was a fiasco.  The sun was coming up over the house, so there was just a little corner by the screen door for taking pictures.  I set up and started snapping away, when I noticed...  PRAYING MANTIS INVASION!  That may be a bit dramatic, but there were TWO and they really looked like they were trying to break into our house.  Terrifying.  THEN a squirrel jumped off the roof onto the tree branch right over my head and a bunch of leaves fell.  And then I couldn't see what happened to the one praying mantis, so I felt very nervous.  Then I found him, and he was lower down on the screen, but still looked threatening.  They are just very creepy creatures

And on top of all that, our neighbors are getting new siding, and there were 2 worker guys walking in and out of their backyard who were probably wondering what the weird girl next door was doing.  Oh, nothing - just taking pictures of my outfit to post on the internet, and scheming how to get back into my house without riling up the praying mantises of doom.

Weekend Recap and Next Week's Theme

So, I may have mentioned that my mom was visiting this past weekend.  It was a quick trip, but I think we had a pretty good time.  On Saturday, we drove out to Grand Island to visit one of her best friends.  It was fun to take a little road trip and so wonderful to catch up with our friend.  I hadn't seen her since my wedding and that was 6 years ago!

Saturday evening, we went to Les Miserables at the Omaha Community Playhouse.  I wasn't sure what to expect from the local theater group, but I was very impressed!  I'll definitely be interested in future shows!  A few random thoughts (because that's what I do):
  • It always bothers me that the actors have British accents.  Shouldn't everyone be French?
  • Gavroche was probably about 15.  I suspect they couldn't find a younger actor.  I just think he's supposed to be much younger and it loses some of the impact when he's a teenager.
  • One of the actors' bios said she didn't realize she could sing until she had her tonsils out.  This makes a lot of sense, because I'm pretty sure I should be on Broadway, but I can't carry a tune.  I will be scheduling a tonsillectomy ASAP!     (kidding, kidding)
  • Eponine will probably always be my favorite.  She just has the best songs!  I find it so hard to believe that Marius would pick Cosette!  Eponine is always prettier and smarter and better!
  • The actor who played Marius was better (IMO) than the guy from the movie or the guy from the Broadway Across America version.  And his day job is being a sewer inspector!
  • It's weird that these actors are just regular people around Omaha.  At intermission, John and I were discussing who we liked and didn't like and then I felt awkward because we could be sitting next to someone's mom!
Anyway, the above outfit is what I wore to the show.  Which leads me nicely to my second point:

I'm doing another theme week!  I had a lot of fun during Polka Dot Week, so I'm going to try doing a theme week every so often.  Next week, I'm taking on STRIPES!  I even have an awesome co-host - Kate from A Journey in Style will be rocking stripes all week, and then we will have a linkup on Friday, October 11th.

So get your striped outfits ready, and come link up!

Be My Valentine

Look!  I switched out purses!

Take One, Pass It On Item:  red jeans from last Thursday's post
*Inspired by this look.

Happy Valentine's Day!  I don't have particularly strong feelings about this holiday.  I mean, I like any excuse to celebrate, but John and I usually don't exchange gifts or anything.  Sometimes, I convince him that we should go out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, but we usually do it a few days after Valentine's, to avoid the crowds.

Last year, the February theme for EBEW was "Red and Pink."  I was still pretty new to the blogging game, and I put together a pretty lame outfit.  Then I really loved some of the other outfits, but I didn't have many red items in my wardrobe, so I never got around to trying it for myself.  When I bought my red jeans right after Christmas, I decided I would finally try the red and pink combo.  Valentine's week seemed like an appropriate time for this.

This is one of those outfits that I decided I was going to wear, and there was no turning back.  As I was driving to work, I started to feel a little bit ridiculous, but I wasn't going to go home to change.  As the day progressed, my t-shirt decided to untuck itself, and I thought it looked a little bit better than the tucked-in version, so I snapped a picture.

I'm just not used to having my shirt tucked in.  I'm going to work on it.

I'm also not a big fan of these boots with this outfit.  They just seem very sudden and dark, compared to the overload of brightness.  I wanted to wear my gray boots, or my gray flats, but they are both falling apart.  I think the shoe repair place can save the boots, but the flats are probably going in the trash.
