Shape Shifting

If you are expecting some cool scifi reason for my post subject, you are in for a real disappointment today.  No, I'm talking about my newly acquired mom-bod.  I'm actually about 10lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight, so you'd think my clothes would fit.  But no.  Because my body is all weird now and shaped differently!  So I wore this outfit and felt great all day, and then took pictures and wasn't so sure about how I looked.

I know lots of women struggle with body confidence, but this is kind of new for me.  I've never thought I was a supermodel, but I think I had a fairly realistic view of myself and generally knew how to dress in ways that I felt good.  Now, I just feel like I don't know how to dress myself!

Anyway, I'm not too super worried about it, but since this is a clothes blog, I figured I should mention my current struggle.  For the record, Baby Smith is 1000% worth it.  Trust me, I'm great at math.

  1. No way, I think you look great! But I can understand your frustration. In the past year or so I've found that I'm carrying my weight differently and it's not a fun transition. Ugh and I don't even have any cute babies to show for it! haha

  3. I agree that you look great. I understand though. I was never built like a supermodel or anything, but after I had my daughter it was like where did these hips come from? Etc. I had to figure out how to dress my new shape. I figured it out and though my daughter is now 5, I still have that different shape.

  4. You look amazing for just having a baby. Don't be to hard on yourself

  5. So funny - I thought you were going to say you're having a hard time losing the weight when the first thing I see in this picture is that you look smaller. But you did say 10 lbs under - which is insane and phenomenal. But having it all shift around - so frustrating I bet! My mom said her hips got HUGE during pregnancy...mine already are so I'm not looking forward to that! :)

  6. That would be pretty crazy to have your body different than it's ever been. Awesome that you are 10 pounds under, though! I'm sure you will quickly figure out how to dress your new body...or maybe it will eventually go back to the way it was?

  7. I'm really struggling with the shape-shifting associated with pregnancy, to be honest. I've always had terrible body image issues, but this whole rapid weight gain thing is throwing me for a loop! Anyway, I think you look fantastic, and I love that you're being honest about your feelings with us.

  8. While I get where you're coming from, I still really love this outfit on you. I haven't personally had a child, but my aunt said after the first child, she went from a C to and F, then back down to a B, then for the second child almost a K, then just sagged. I laughed a little, but moms bodies go through some pretty serious havoc after having a child. According to my mom, it'll just change again. Though easier said than done, stay optimistic! You look great and I know with the RA some days are better than others, but that mom glow suits you well.

  9. I can definitely relate to shape shifting as of late. I feel like the only way to dress is by wearing whatever is loose and baggy. I hope the struggle becomes less of a struggle as time goes on!

  10. You'll get there! It took me a while to navigate the whole scale numbers vs. changed body shape thing after having a baby too. Eventually you figure out a new body, but also when I got back to core workouts etc. things did firm back up a little :) Self perception is always hard for me in these situations... but I do think you look great! That shape of skirt looks great and your legs look so long.
