Colors of the Wind

If you happen to fall in love and/or marry a boy named John Smith, there are certain things that you should be prepared for.  One of these is jokes about Pocahontas, even though she totally married a guy named John Rolfe, which everyone seems to forget!  Anyway, people pretty regularly call me Pocahontas.  I guess we do kind of look alike when it's windy out:

#10 - Silly Problems

I wore this yesterday.  It's a good thing I felt cute, because I definitely had a serious case of the Mondays.  When I was getting ready, my tights ripped!  This is the first time I've worn them, so I'm not happy about that!  The good thing is that the holes are higher up, so my dress conceals the issue.  And I quickly put some clear nail polish to prevent a run.  Because I don't have a back-up plan for this color of tights.  I'm beginning to think that tights with a pattern are just prone to rip more easily.  (I had the same thing happen in November with some patterned tights).  So maybe I should stick to patternless tights?

After the fiasco with the tights, I drove to work.  When I got to my office, my desk was missing a computer.  Because I took it home this weekend, thinking I might work some.  And then I completely forgot that I had it at home.  So, I had to go get it, and my day started about 45 minutes later than I had planned.

After work and Zumba, I decided to watch Downton Abbey while I ate dinner.  I had heard that S4E3 had a shocking/upsetting event, but I would not have guessed what happens.  I just think the show could be interesting enough without so many awful things happening.  WHY CAN'T THEY JUST BE HAPPY?

Anyway, I'm hoping the rest of the week is better.  (And yes, I know these aren't real problems, but those aren't fun to blog about).

#8 - Layers

Saturday outfit posts might be necessary so the 30X30 doesn't drag out to far into February posts.  This is my first attempt wearing this dress as a skirt.  The outfit didn't turn out quite as cute as I imagined it.

Anyway, it was a crazy first week back after the holidays.  Too much stuff to get done and not enough time (at work or at home!).  I'm hoping to have a very productive Saturday, but I'll probably end up wasting the day sleeping and/or reading.  You know, important stuff!

Weekend Fun

So, Monday!  It was a pretty busy weekend (well, with a certain amount of laziness on Saturday!).  Here's the short version:
  • Friday afternoon, I left work a little early and went to the outlet mall to do a little Christmas shopping.  I now have only 2 people left to shop for, and I know generally what I should buy them, so I'm feeling pretty good.
  • Friday evening, John's office had their annual Christmas party.  We had a great time and stayed out entirely too late.
  • Saturday, I may have slept until noon.  It's hard to say.  Then I did pretty much nothing all day, except read.  I guess I did a little bit of laundry and cleaned the kitchen.
  • Saturday evening, we went to see the new Hobbit movie.   I liked it more than the first one.  It does deviate from the book quite a bit, but I thought the book was kind of boring, so I'm not going to complain too much.  Plus it's been about 5 years since I read the book, so I don't remember the details.
  • Sunday was church, lunch, gym, church, and then we went over to our friends' apartment.  They recently moved to a cool apartment downtown and I hadn't been there yet.  It was fun to see their place and get to hang out!
Anyway, it's going to be another busy week, and then next week is Christmas!  So excited!!!  I need to get serious about wrapping all these presents that are stacking up.

Oh, and these pictures are from a few weeks ago - now our backyard is covered in snow.

Throwing Leaves

So many things to discuss today!
  • I'm passing along the cream boyfriend cardigan.  I bought it at The Limited on my birthday and want to wear it every day, so it just made sense.
  • Leopard week continues with this H&M scarf.
  • Halfway through the day, I changed my belt and shoes.  So, here's a little bonus outfit.  You'll be seeing more of these shoes later in the week.
  • When taking outfit pictures, John was very inspired by the leaves on the ground, so he started throwing them at me.  It was pretty awesome.  I had to make a collage:

Oh, and I'm starting a new weekly collage for TOPIO.  Mostly because iPiccy runs out of collage options between the ranges of 5-9.

Stripe Week - Dress

Let's be honest - I had a bit of a "BUY ALL THE STRIPED DRESSES" phase earlier this year.  In my defense, I think it was more an issue of supply increasing than me being completely ridiculous.  There were just more options in stores at good prices this spring.  Not that I'm NOT completely ridiculous, but whatever.  Let's move on.

My husband rarely has specific comments about what I wear.  When he does have something to say, it usually surprises me.  He likes this dress, because the stripes get kind of "zig-zaggy" on the skirt part.  Okay. I like it because it's pink and striped and very comfortable and has pockets.  I don't like how wrinkly it gets, but I've already mentioned that!

We're at the midpoint of Stripes Week!  Are you ready to link up with A Journey in Style and me on Friday??

Ironing

I love this dress, but I hate to iron.  This is a predicament.  It was in my ironing pile for a few weeks.  Then I finally ironed it, and I wore it the next day.  Now it's in the ironing pile again.  I really need to hire a maid to take care of these things for me. Or I need to stop buying things that wrinkle.

Yellow Cardigan Remix

It's Friday, which means the weekend is almost here.  More importantly, it means my sister and nieces are on their way to my house for a whole week of shenanigans.  You may remember them from last summer and Thanksgiving.  I am WAY TOO EXCITED to see them!

I'll be honest, I don't actually plan ahead for my Friday remix post.  I usually just pick a random outfit that is in my draft list and go find previous outfits, make the collage, and call it good.  This week, I was busy wearing my new items from Loft, so most of my un-blogged outfits don't include frequently worn items.  Good thing I wore my trusty yellow cardigan on Thursday!

Recently, I've been really drawn to both pink and yellow, so pairing them together just made sense.  I probably shouldn't say "recently," because when I was a kid, my favorite swimsuit was pink with yellow polka dots.  I remember my friends telling me it didn't match, but I thought it was awesome.  Some things never change...

I've actually already done a remix collage on this cardigan, back on my one year blog-iversary.  So, I have 4 looks from spring/summer 2012 here:

And here are 4 looks from spring/summer 2013:

With the exception of #4 (because pants are the worst), I really like all of these outfits.  Which one is your favorite?

Stripes Times Two - with My New Favorite Outfit

Happy Monday!  I'm so excited to introduce you all to Ginny from My New Favorite Outfit.  We are teaming up today to showcase stripes, which are apparently very trendy right now (are stripes ever not "in"?).   We both decided to style a striped dress - great minds think alike, right?!

I love how she mixes neutrals together and then adds the fabulous green necklace for some color!  Seriously, if you aren't already reading her blog, you need to start.  Her style is fantastic and her thrift store finds are enviable.

Here are a few more pictures of my look.

What is your favorite way to wear stripes?

Linen (the Color, not the Fabric) Scarf Remix

It's Day 4 of the Pantone Spring Color Challenge with Marissa and Heidi, which means Linen is the color of the day.  My Calvin Klein scarf is probably the best "Linen-colored" item in my wardrobe, so that was my starting point, but a lady can't just wear a scarf!  I thought it would look cute with my new dress from Gap, so I added a cognac belt and nude heels and was good to go.

I really like this dress, but 1992 Andi would have LOVED it.  When I was a kid, I had big dreams of opening a candy shop when I grew up, with the brilliantly crafted name of "Andi's Dandy Candy."  It rhymes, get it?!  I spent many days drawing up plans for my store, and everything was bright and colorful.  The uniforms for employees were striped, in my favorite Crayola colors of Jungle Green, Cerulean, Violet Red (basically bright pink magenta), and Red Violet (basically fuchsia).  This dress would have been perfect for the owner of such a wonderful store!  At some point, I gave up on my entrepreneurial plan, but I still like bright colors and stripes!  (PS - I just got super nostalgic about Crayons!  The 1994 release of Gem Tones was a highlight of my childhood!  My store uniforms were probably Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, and Rose Quartz that year).

Okay, back to the topic at hand.  The linen-colored scarf is a frequently-worn item for me.  Here's a remix collage (linking up with AJ again):
