A Random Winner

This is what I wore on Friday to work and then to dinner and Motown.  It was a very randomly thrown together outfit, but I absolutely loved it.  The thought process went something like this:

Hmm... it's cold outside, I should wear jeans.  No, I want to wear a dress for the show tonight.  But I'm so tired of wearing boots.  I'll try my footless tights and flats and just let my ankles freeze.  Okay.  Now what should I actually wear?  All my dresses that fit are in the laundry except for this gray one - yeah, I like that one.  And it will look okay with black tights, just add a black belt.  Sleeveless, so I will need something warm to layer.  Scan through my cardigan drawer - ooh, stripes!  Well, now I'm all gray and black.  Quick add a bright scarf!  And done.

And now you know all my deepest secrets for outfit planning.

Hat Lady

I like hats, but I don't have very many, and I rarely wear the ones that I have.  I think this is because I wouldn't wear a hat to work, and the majority of my outfits are for work.  On this particular day, I went hatless to work, but took the afternoon off, put my hat on, and ran some errands.  And I think this hat might come in handy when I'm a brand new mom and can't wash my hair on a regular basis.  Or at least, that's what I hear will happen.

Fringe

The only fringe in my wardrobe exists on the ends of scarves.  So for Sarah's April Looking Lucky Style Challenge, it was pretty easy to narrow down my options.  Of course, I wanted to wear more of my newly purchased items, and thought this lace-overlay sweater would look quite nice with the pink scarf.  I really liked the simplicity of this outfit, but there were enough extras to keep it interesting.

By the way, today is my half-birthday!  Whoo!  I'm officially 29.5 today!  So, 30 is looming and I'm not sure how I feel about that.  You get extra presents on milestone birthdays, right?

Bloglovin'

By now, you've probably heard that Google Reader (and maybe Google Friend Connect) is going away.  When I heard the news, I switched to Bloglovin for my daily blog reading.  It was really easy to make the switch, and I was able to import my Google Reader blogs into Bloglovin.

Pros:
  • It was a good time to trim down my list of blogs.  The list had grown so much that I was missing out on the ones I really wanted to read.
  • Bloglovin seems easier to make groups of blogs, and mark certain ones as read.

Con:
  • I have to open each blog to read the full post.  Google Reader had the full post most of the time (depending on the blogger settings).  I don't think it actually takes longer, but it seems annoying to have to open each blog in a new tab.

One thing I have heard/read from other bloggers is that it will be nice for GFC to go away, because then we won't all be so focused on the number of followers.  I don't really get this, because Bloglovin' still tells you a number of followers.

Anyway, if you are currently using Google Reader, I would recommend Bloglovin as an alternative.  You can import your GR subscriptions, or just start fresh.  You can find and follow me here!

PS - I'm being an outfit copycat again.  I don't think I would have thought of combining yellow, pink, and purple, but this picture inspired me!  I was going to wait until it was warm, but I got impatient, and I really like how the denim jacket and gray boots tone down the crazy bright colors.

Frozen Ankles

Take One, Pass It On Item:  pink scarf from last Wednesday's post

I'm getting pretty tired of winter for several reasons.  One is that I have such limited footwear options. Every day, I mostly get to decide if I want to wear my gray boots, my black boots, or my brown boots.  So when I checked the weather and it was supposed to be sunny and in the upper 40s, I was pretty excited to bust out my peep-toes and let my ankles out to play.  It turns out that my weather app was lying to me, and it was cloudy, maybe in the 30s, with pretty strong winds.  My poor ankles and toes were so cold.  Rookie mistake.

Keep It Simple

Take One, Pass It On Item:  gray boots from last Wednesday's post.  This sort of feels like cheating, because I wear these boots all the time, but I'm following my modified version of the rules, so it's all good.

I really love this outfit, even though it's kind of boring.  It was just super comfortable and (I think) still stylish.  Kate has been talking about getting back to basics lately, and I think it's a good reminder, especially to those of us who post our daily outfits on the internet.  Sometimes, I just want to wear jeans and a cozy sweater, and I don't always feel like it is "blog-worthy."  Then I feel dishonest if I don't post my less exciting outfits.  So here's a simple outfit - it's a good example of what I wear on the days when I don't feel like thinking too hard about what to wear.

PersonalityType

Have you ever taken the Myers Briggs Personality Test?  I've never done the official one, but I've randomly taken it online over the past few years.  My dad brought it up recently in a conversation about introverts vs. extroverts, and I decided I should take it again, because I can never remember what my letters are.  Without any further ado, here's my type:

The website also has a list of famous ENFJ's, which is kind of interesting.  Some of the notable names are Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Peyton Manning, Oprah, Johnny Depp, and King David (from the Bible).  I'm sorry, how do they know what Myers Briggs personality type King David had?  I mean, that's just ridiculous!

In the Garage

Outfit photos are so difficult in the winter!  I am getting bored of my indoor spots, so I decided to be crazy and take pictures in the garage.  It's kind of like being outside, because there are leaves on the floor.

After raving about the awesomeness of knit pencil skirts recently, I was pretty excited when I found this one on the clearance racks at Macy's.  And this is way more practical than my other purple skirt!

Trifecta Tuesday - Navy Dress

Fall is making an appearance and I am pretty excited to layer again!  Just don't quote me on that in January when I am so tired of the cold weather.

I didn't intend to have my collar popped in these pictures.  It got warm enough in the afternoon that I didn't need the jacket anymore, but I threw it back on for pictures.  I guess I should look in the mirror before I pull out my camera.

Here are 2 other ways I have worn this dress recently:

I'm a Robot

When I comment on other blogs, I frequently am asked to "prove I'm not a robot".  I don't think I'm a robot, but it usually takes me several attempts to get the right answer.  I mean, what does that even say up there!?  Is anyone else terrible at solving CAPTCHA clues?  Or should I just give up and accept the fact that I might be a robot?

Vacation Date Night

Old Navy Dress and Flip Flops, Charming Charlie Scarf

On the Sunday we were in St. Croix, their annual triathlon was happening.  This meant we weren't able to leave our resort most of the day, because the roads were closed.  No problem!  We just took it easy and then dressed up and went into town for dinner.  This is what I wore.  This dress is just super easy and was also no problem to pack.  Perfect for vacation.  We went to a restaurant called "Angry Nate's" in Christiansted, and sat outside, because it had finally stopped raining!

I mentioned that it rained quite a bit while we were there.  I was pretty content just sitting on our balcony and watching the rain and the ocean.  Here's my view:

I think I will wrap up vacation posts tomorrow and be back to OOTD posts!

Zebra Dress

Remember when I wore this zebra skirt and I said it was really a dress?

Well, here's the proof that it is, in fact, a dress!

I've had this dress for a few years, and I've only ever worn it with flip flops.  I just wasn't sure about heels with a maxi dress, but I think it is the right decision.  I also think I would like this outfit better without the cardigan, but April is a little early for strapless dresses, even if it was 90+ degrees on the day I wore this.

Copycat

Have I mentioned that I've been unable to come up with outfit ideas lately??  I just want it to be spring so I can start wearing my warmer weather clothes!   Some days, the only option is to steal an idea from someone else.  Pinterest is a very good accomplice in outfit stealing.  I loved this outfit when Jill wore it, and thought "Hey, I have all of those pieces!"  and pinned it.

This blazer is velvet.  I bought it in 2005 from Old Navy.  This was right around the time I got the purple velvet blazer.  I honestly don't know what I was thinking at the time.  A college student just doesn't have much use for a velvet blazer, much less 2 velvet blazers.  These blazers have hung in my closet for 6+ years, and I'm just now wearing them.

This one had really unfortunate bright coppery gold buttons on it, which I was planning to replace before I wore it.  Again, 6 years later, I still hadn't done it.  This morning, I just cut the buttons off.  That's right, I'm wearing a velvet blazer with NO BUTTONS!

Wearing the Pants

I recently realized I haven't worn pants since I started this blog.  I just really prefer dresses and skirts, I guess, and jeans, but those are in a different category.  So, without any further ado, here's evidence that I do, in fact, own pants:
It's also "S for Sheer" day over at the ABC challenge.  I don't have very many sheer items, so I mostly had to pick between this shirt and one other.
I felt a little boring, so I grabbed my hot pink scarf to add some color.

Go check out the other S for Sheer looks here

Stripes + Scarf

Happy Saturday!  Believe it or not, this is not what I am wearing today.  This is from Monday, when I actually looked presentable.  So far today, I haven't been very stylish.  Saturdays tend to fill up with all the chores I successfully avoided throughout the week.  I should really hire a housekeeper and a personal chef.  Then I'd have more time for important stuff, like taking pictures of myself in cute outfits and post them on the internet.
