Three Closet Orphans Combined

I love this scarf, but somehow it got buried under my other scarves and I haven't worn it in over a year (according to my blog archives, which are probably pretty accurate).  I'm happy to rescue it and start wearing it more regularly again.

The dress also got lost in my dresses.  I think I've been picking my black/white striped skirt more often and forgetting to grab the dress.

The cardigan is a tricky one.  I bought it when Gap was having a Friends and Family sale, and I wasn't finding much, but I was just in the mood to buy something, so this cardigan came home with me.  It's a pretty thick/itchy wool fabric, but it's pastel purple.  So it's sort of confused about whether it belongs in winter or spring.

I wore this a few weeks ago, and then Heather posted a super similar outfit!   I guess great minds think alike when it comes to putting lavender and stripes with a floral scarf!  We must both be ready for spring to arrive.

Double Dresses and Dots

The awkward polka dot dress is now my go-to layering piece!  If I just put another dress on over it, the strange length is no longer an issue.  Boom!

Today is a very exciting day!  I'm leaving work early to spend the weekend in Arizona with 2 of my best friends (featured here and here).  I am looking forward to very warm weather, pool time, shopping at stores that don't exist in Nebraska, and about 72 hours of non-stop friend-time!

In the meantime, I have a fun DIY post scheduled for tomorrow.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, because I sure plan to!

Snow Day!

Take One, Pass It On Item:  purple tights from last Tuesday's post

Well, Winter Storm Q finally arrived yesterday after much speculation about how much snow it might bring.  I worked from home, because the news said getting to work would be fine, but getting home would be tricky.  I figured it would be best just to stay home, since I can remote into all the programs I need.  I was starting to feel foolish, but the snow finally started around noon, and I think we got about 7 inches by evening.

I'm glad I am a few days ahead on outfit photos, because what I wore today was definitely NOT blog-worthy, unless I start a side blog about how to wear sweatpants and slippers.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Tiny Heart Knock-Off

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I'm sure Sharon won't mind that I am totally stealing her outfit.  Even thought I am about a foot taller than her, we can both rock stripes and polka dots, right?

I wore this to work, and on the drive in, I noticed a tiny hole in my tights.  If I had been at home, I would have immediately dabbed some nail polish on it to prevent a run.  When I got to work, I emailed all the women in my office, but none of them keep nail polish at their desk.   Miraculously, I made it through the day without getting a huge run!  I count that as a big win!  Less happily, these are probably my favorite black tights and I have no idea when or where I bought them.  Any suggestions for where I can find some replacements?

300th Post and Blogiversary

I can't believe it has been one year since I started this little blog!  Time flies when you are having fun, I guess.    One of my favorite posts from the year was this "Repeat Offender" one, where I showed some of my most worn pieces.  One of the reasons I started blogging was to get out of my style rut.  I was wearing the same outfits on a rotation and was just getting pretty bored with it.  In the last year, I've really had fun trying new and different combinations!  Here are just a few of my frequently worn pieces:

This is Awkward

Usually, my husband doesn't give a whole lot of feedback on my outfits.  Sometimes, he will say things like "This is awkward, but your boots are brown, and your dress is black."  I tried to explain that cognac is a totally legitimate color to pair with black.  Then I asked him for permission to quote him on the blog, and he said "Yeah, if you want to embarrass yourself!"  I don't think he's convinced that these colors work together.

A Case of the Mondays

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!  It's open for a few more days!

These are from last Monday.  It was the type of Monday that gives Mondays a bad name.  First my alarm clock didn't go off, so I was running late from the start.  Then I realized it was raining and kind of cool outside, so my quick and easy summer outfits were not an option.  I decided I would wear the boots that my sister gave me this summer.  They were on super sale at Gap, and they are really cute.  So, I got all ready and put the boots on just before I was going to run out the door.  I quickly learned why the boots were so cheap:  they were super uncomfortable!  There was no way I could wear them all day.  Unfortunately, I didn't have any other shoes that would look good and be ok for the rainy day.  So, I started from scratch on my outfit.  I was actually kind of proud of myself for how quickly I got ready again.

Anyway, I was about to leave and I could NOT find my car keys.  My keys are always in my purse, but I couldn't find them anywhere.  So I searched the whole house and several minutes later, I found my keys on the kitchen counter, underneath a grocery bag.

By that time, I had 5 minutes before a client call, so I emailed them to see if we could move it back 15 minutes.  I got to work and was all ready for my call when my computer told me it was going to restart in 15 minutes, and it didn't give me the usual option to postpone the restart.  The client called, and I was just watching the clock count down to the restart.  I was hoping the call was short, and thank goodness, it was!

The rest of the day was pretty average, but the first hour was just ridiculous.  I was ready to give up and go back to bed.  Here's hoping this Monday is better!

New Hat

When my shopping ban expired last week, I really wanted to go shopping.  I had all sorts of ideas for what I wanted to buy:  pink, red, or green skinny jeans, flat black sandals, more colorful scarves for summer,  new shorts, more skirts and dresses, the list goes on and on.  But then I had a cold and felt terrible after work on Thursday.  On Friday, I was feeling just slightly better and decided to swing by Marshall's to see what I could find.

I tried on about 20 things, but just came home with 2 items.  Some purple Reebok shorts for working out - not blog-worthy at all.

I also got a floppy hat!  This is really exciting.  I've been wanting a floppy hat since I was last on a beach, over 2 years ago!  We just might be going on a beach vacation this summer, and I really wanted a floppy hat for it.

So, this is what I wore to work yesterday:

When it was time to take outfit photos, I thought it was time to model my hat:

Isn't it fun??   I actually had to fight off another shopper for it.  OK, not actually fight, but it was a little awkward.  I had this hat and 2 others that I kind of liked.  I took them over to a mirror, and set them down on the shelf nearby.  I was standing in front of the mirror trying on hat #1, when this woman came over and grabbed hat #2, tried it on, and maneuvered her way in front of me at the mirror.  I'm so non-confrontational, I was like "um yeah, I was just trying these hats on, because I want to buy one, so um..." and then just grabbed the other hat and backed away slowly.  Luckily the hat she stole from me was my least favorite of the three, and I really like the one I ended up with.  Crazy shoppers!  I just can't believe how rude people are sometimes.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

After a few days of gorgeous sunny weather, we have had a few days of gorgeous rainy weather.  I am pretty okay with gray skies when it is still 60+ degrees outside!  And no tornadoes, please.

I wanted to wear my wellies, but they were in the garage, and I was in a hurry.  Regular boots will work just fine for splashing through puddles.

So, is anyone else going to see The Hunger Games tonight?  Against my better judgement, I'm going at midnight.  I'm pretty excited!  I might be kind of sleepy on Friday, but I'm willing to take that risk.

Writer's Block

I've had this outfit in mind, ever since I saw this on Pinterest.  How did people get dressed every morning before the internet??

I totally have writer's block today, so I'm stealing the ABC's of Me idea from Katie over at
High Heels and Bubble Gum.  This totally reminds me of the olden days of internetting, when we'd send stuff like this out on email, or (dare I admit) post it on Xanga.

Age: 9,993 days (27yrs) - I'm excited for my 10,000th day next week.  Feel free to send presents.
Bedsize: Full
Chores that you hate: Can I say everything?  Mostly washing dishes, because it is never ending.
Dogs: none at the moment.  I had 2 dogs as a kid.
Essential start to your day: hitting the snooze button for about an hour
Favorite color: probably pink or green
Gold or Silver: white gold!
Height: 5'9''
Instruments you play: do the drums on Rock Band count?  No?  Ok, then I don't play any instruments.
Job title: Project Manager
Kids: Kids are pretty cool.  I don't have any, if that's what this is supposed to be asking.
Live: Omaha, Nebraska
Mother’s Name: Linda
Nicknames: pretty much just Andi.  I guess my friends from high school called me Red, because I was always the red game piece when we played Sorry.  Yes, we played Sorry in high school pretty regularly.  It was cool, I promise.
Overnight hospital stays: Never
Pet peeves: bad drivers, bad spellers, and people who use "having a bad day" as an excuse to be mean.
Quote from a movie or tv show: Dozens of people spontaneously combust every year.  It's just not very well documented - from Spinal Tap
Right or Lefty: Lefty
Siblings: 2 sisters, 1 brother, 2 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law
Time you wake up: This is embarrassing.  During the week - usually 8:30.  On the weekends - sometime between 10-noon.
Underwear: every day.
Vegetable you hate: All of them.  It's a character flaw.
What makes you run late: everything.  It's genetic.  I'm always rushing to get places on time.
X-Rays You’ve Had:  Mouth/dental, ankle, arm, I think that's all.
Yummy food you make: Chocolate Chip Cookies are my favorite.
Zoo Animal:  Polar bears

Stripes + Scarf

Happy Saturday!  Believe it or not, this is not what I am wearing today.  This is from Monday, when I actually looked presentable.  So far today, I haven't been very stylish.  Saturdays tend to fill up with all the chores I successfully avoided throughout the week.  I should really hire a housekeeper and a personal chef.  Then I'd have more time for important stuff, like taking pictures of myself in cute outfits and post them on the internet.

Sunday Best

This coat was a lucky find a few years ago.  I have trouble with coats, because the sleeves are never long enough.  When I found this coat at Gap, I immediately loved it.  Then I noticed the size:  Medium Tall!  Yes, please!  They normally don't carry the tall sizes in stores, but someone bought it online and then returned it just in time for me to buy it on clearance.  Thank you, random coat-returning person!

I went shopping with my mother-in-law this afternoon, and we meandered into Charming Charlie.  She bought a super cute new black and gray scarf, and when we got the to car, she surprised me with a pink scarf I had been admiring.  Best Mother-in-law ever?  Yeah, I think so.  (and I'm not just saying that since she might read this!)
