Formerly Known As Dress

The last time you saw this top, it was a dress.  It was a very cheap dress, and probably a little on the short side anyway, so when it ripped, I almost just got rid of it.  Then I thought it might make a cute top.  Then it sat in my "sewing projects pile" for over a year.  Then I finally took the 20 minutes needed to chop it and hem the edge.  Why did I wait so long?  We may never know!

Anyway, I'm digging it as a top.  I actually wore it immediately after completing the project.  I even paired it with this cardigan that was also a DIY dye project.  I should really make more time for easy refashioning projects!

Cardigan: Old Navy (dyed)
Top: Kohl's (refashioned dress)
Shorts: J.Crew Factory
Sandals: Carlos Santana

  1. Way to make it work! I love this as a top and I'm glad you didn't have to get rid of it. I have so many sewing projects that just sit and then when I finally do them they are quick and I love the result!

  2. I'm jealous of your sewing skills! I have three things in my alterations pile right now but I need to take them to a tailor since I can't sew.

  4. The print is GORGEOUS, so I'm glad you saved it and turned it into a top. Dye a cardigan? How am I just realizing the awesomeness of such an idea? Man, really opens some sartorial doors. I need to be more creative in how I repurpose things.

  7. I'm so glad you were able to keep it, the print is amazing! I'm impressed with your skills! Did you use a sewing machine, or did you hand sew the hem? I've been thinking about getting a little sewing machine to do simpler projects like this, but most of the reviews on smaller machines are pretty bad, but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a sewing machine that will only get occasional use.

  8. Look at you, Little Ms. DIY! I love that you took that dress and turned it into a top that you'll get some great wear out of :) I really like how you styled it as well :)
