Suit Up

Last week, I mentioned that I had a last minute business trip.  I sort of panicked, because I didn't have a suit, and felt like I should wear one for this particular event.  So I spent a few hours shopping under duress.  It was awful!  I thought The Limited would be a sure thing, and they had a 50% off sale for all regular priced items.  It would have been great, except they didn't have my sizes in the same color skirt and blazer.  So I could have gotten a gray blazer and tan skirt, but that wasn't very helpful.  And it was too late to order online.  I actually ended up buying a tan suit at NY&Co, but I didn't like it all that much.  It was definitely a "giving up" purchase.  As I was leaving the mall, defeated with my ugly suit, I decided to take a look at the department store.  This should have been my first destination.  Seriously, what was I thinking??

This is the suit I ended up getting.  I'm pretty happy with it, but I wish I'd had more time to look!  I think it's pretty likely I would have gotten this one anyway.  From far away, it just looks gray, but close up there is some black/white texture going on:

Anyway, this is what I wore on my trip.  And I took these photos after a very long day in meetings and flying home.  So if I look a little rumpled/exhausted, that's why.

I'm not sure how often I'll need to wear a full suit, but I do think I'll be able to break it up and wear the skirt and blazer with other pieces.  Hopefully it wasn't a completely foolish purchase!

  1. I think a suit is a smart buy! I bet you'll get plenty of use out of the pieces as separates, but at least suits are classic, so years from now you can still go to this suit if you have things come up for work like they did this time.

  2. I rarely wear a full suit, but it's nice to have the option. And those pieces are perfect to use apart. I like the texture of it!

  3. So frustrating about your experience at The Limited! When I worked there, I would feel so bad for customers who had the same problem. Silly women who buy only half of the suit! What are they thinking?! ha. jk. I think it looks good and professional! It's nice to have on hand... although I've had a blazer with matching skirt and pants for three years and have yet to wear them (all together).

  4. I'm glad you found something you like! This is a great suit, I love the texture. And I bet you will get a lot of wear out of the pieces separately too!

  6. WOW I love that suit. It suits you so well (pun not intended), the color, textures and classic style is great. I always love Gray with Pink too.

I am surprised you couldn't find anything at The Limited since they are known for their Suits. I own 2 Pant Suits and a Skirt Suit from there and they are all very nice. Also, a tip for Suits: White House Black Market has some great ones especially Black Suits. Their Blazers are always so fun too while being elegant and polished. They are expensive but when they have one of their 40-60% off sales, plus with a coupon you can get a great suit for around 100 bucks.

What job/field do you work at?

  7. This suit looks great and I love those wedges! They have been on my wishlist for a bit now. I have the peach colored Martina's and need a good black wedge too. I'm stopping by from Fran's.
