Rosie the Riveter

Here's the deal - I don't really like Halloween.  When I was a kid, my family didn't go trick or treating, and I don't remember ever dressing up as anything (although there is some evidence that it happened in preschool).

Anyway, this year, John and I helped out at our church harvest party again, but didn't really dress up.  I just wore jeans and a red/white striped shirt and told people I was "Where's Waldo."  Kind of like this.

Afterwards, I went over to a costume party that some of my friends were hosting, and felt like I needed to try a little harder, but I had limited time and resources.  I've seen a few "Rosie the Riveter" costume ideas on Pinterest (here and here), and that seemed pretty easy without having to buy anything else.  Not everyone knew who I was, but I think it was a pretty decent last-minute costume idea.

I just want to add that I would be the worst riveter ever.  When John and I went to Washington DC a few years ago, the American History museum had this little station where you could practice using the rivet gun.  I couldn't even do it.  So shameful.

Brooke was a pinata, because she's awesome.
Last year, I shared 2 pretty cool couples costumes that John and I have done in the past.  The first paragraph of that post is basically the same as my first paragraph above.  At least I'm consistent!

Anyway, I hope you have a safe and happy day.  I may be a Halloween Grinch and turn my porch light off to avoid the trick-or-treaters.  We'll see how I'm feeling.

  2. I am not one to dress up either, but this costume is great! It's easy and can be done with pieces you already own. We are supposed to get torrential downpours and high winds for our trick or treat night. They still haven't rescheduled it, so I am kind of not looking forward to doing the mom thing and taking the little one out. It's going to be miserable!

  4. Oh wow I haven't worn a costume in probably 5 years. I'm not really against it, but haven't had a reason to. I really like your costume, it seems easy and turned out great!

  5. I don't love dressing up for Halloween either...but if I had a reason to dress up, I would have been Rosie the Riveter too! I told Kevin that if we ever go to a Halloween party and need to dress up, I'll either go as Rosie or as Hermione Granger for the rest of my life, haha. Strong females for the win!!
