March Budget Recap

Remember how I was going to avoid shopping in March to save up for my trip to Phoenix?  Yeah, me neither.  In my defense:
  • J.Crew Factory is sneaky with their promo code emails, and I really needed some new denim shorts for this summer
  • Gap got me with Friends and Family days
  • Grocery shopping at Target is dangerous
March Purchases

Technically, a few of these items were purchased at the end of February (after I wrote that budget recap), but I didn't feel like updating that post, so I'm just going to detail it here.  I panicked a couple days before vacation and bought a few more summery pieces for the trip.

February Additions (this takes February from $18 to $46):
March Purchases
  • J.Crew Denim Shorts: $31 (originally $58.50)
  • J.Crew Corsage Tee: $9 (originally 39.50)
  • Gap Cardigan (similar): $16 (originally $45)
  • Xhileration Ruffle Dress (different colors):  $7.50 (originally $25)
  • Merona Floral Tank:  $10 (originally $15)
  • Prabal Gurung Sandals: $15 (originally $30) - still deciding whether or not to keep these!  What do you all think? (UPDATE: I returned these)
  • Merona Cardigan:  $11.50 (originally $23)

March total: $100 (originally $236)
(Updated Total: $85 (originally $206)

So I basically hit my exact monthly budget in January and March, and only spent about half in February.  This means I have about $50 extra rolling into April.  I also cashed out at the consignment shop recently, which gets added into the clothing fund.

  1. Your defenses sound just like me! Gap keeps killing me with all of this 40% off stuff. I also grocery shop at Target and always go through the "non-essential stuff while I'm there, but I feel like I'm able to watch the sales a bit better. I'm eyeing the skirt version of that Merona floral top! I'm loving all of your finds this month.

I also looked at those sandals, but ended up passing on them. They're super cute, but for me, I already had some dressier black sandals. I'd say if you don't already have a good pair, those would be great to keep!

  2. I didn't know J. Crew factory had promo emails. Sneaky! I like the sandals-- I generally don't care for the "X for Target" lines, and especially the obnoxiously loud things, but these are cute, simple, and they look like you'd actually get some wear from them. Maybe test yourself to see if you can come up with 3-5 different outfits with them, and if you can, (and if they are comfortable), then keep them!

  3. J.Crew factory's email is the whole reason I drove to the outlet mall this weekend! I tried to be good but it was still...sneaky. I think as long as you don't feel guilty about it you should be good - plus you got some good deals and have more for April!

  4. hahahahaha I *occasionally* slip things into my Target cart when I go for dog treats, toilet paper, and cotton balls and then try to decide if I'll include them with my budget. It's too easy.

  6. I love the ruffle dress! And I love my PGxTarget wedges, so my vote is to keep them. I also picked up a sweater now that the collection is so heavily discounted. I can't believe you got all of that for $100!

  8. haha your in defense comments made me laugh because I've definitely had those same weaknesses before! I am so glad I missed the memo on GAP friends and family! I would be flat broke. I did horribly this month, but I am hoping to make it up in April.
